Man of Sorrows

Man of sorrows, Lamb of God, by His own betrayed. The sin of man and wrath of God has been on Jesus laid.

Silent as He stood accused, beaten, mocked, and scorned. Bowing to the Father’s will, He took a crown of thorns.

Chorus: Oh, that rugged cross, my salvation, where Your love poured out over me. Now my soul cries out, halleluiah, praise and honor unto Thee.

Sent of heaven, God’s own Son to purchase and redeem. And reconcile the very ones who nailed Him to that tree. Chorus

Now, my debt is paid, it is paid in full by the precious blood that my Jesus spilled. Now, the curse of sin has no hold on me. Whom the Son sets free, oh, is free indeed.

See the stone is rolled away, behold the empty tomb. Hallelujah, God be praised, He’s risen from the grave. Chorus

Call to Worship/Prayer of Invocation

Jesus, Son of God

You came down from Heaven’s throne. This earth You formed was not Your home. A love like this the world had never known. A crown of thorns to mock Your name. Forgiveness fell upon Your face. A love like this the world had never known.

Chorus: On the altar of our praise, let there be no higher name: Jesus, Son of God. You laid down Your perfect life; You are the sacrifice, Jesus, Son of God. (You are Jesus, Son of God.)

You took our sin, You bore our shame, You rose to life, You defeated the grave, and a love like this the world has never known. ’Cause You took our sin, You bore our shame, You rose to life, You defeated the grave. A love like this the world has never known.

Bridge: Be lifted higher than all You’ve overcome. Your name be louder than any other song. There is no power that can come against Your love. The cross was enough, the cross was enough.

The Lion and the Lamb

He’s coming on the clouds, kings and kingdoms will bow down. And every chain will break as broken hearts declare His praise. For who can stop the Lord Almighty?

Chorus: Our God is the Lion, the Lion of Judah. He’s roaring with power, and fighting our battles. And every knee will bow before Him. Our God is the Lamb, the Lamb that was slain. For the sins of the world, His blood breaks the chains. And every knee will bow before the Lion and the Lamb. Every knee will bow before Him.

So open up the gates, make way before the King of kings. The God Who comes to save is here to set the captives free. For who can stop the Lord Almighty? Chorus

Bridge: Who can stop the Lord Almighty? Who can stop the Lord? Chorus

Corporate Confession of Sin

Kurt Nelson, Ruling Elder

Our Father, we confess that we have sinned against You. We have rebelled by making our own desires and ways central, while ignoring or evading your desires and ways. By your Holy Spirit, come and work repentance into our hearts. Help us to see You as You are: holy, yet inviting, with a loving heart, and salvation accomplished through Your Son. Help us to see Jesus, the Friend of sinners, and to follow Him more faithfully. As we have received Him, so strengthen us to walk in Him, depend on Him, commune with Him, as You conform us to Him. Enable us to believe in Your grace in a way that makes us bold for others, that we might joyfully tell our friends and neighbors of Your saving mercy. Amen.

Celebration of the Lord’s Supper

New Covenant welcomes all baptized Christians who have forsaken their sin and trust in Jesus Christ alone for salvation, and who are members of congregations that proclaim the Gospel, to receive the Lord’s Supper with us. Individuals pick up their elements from the tables in the sanctuary or in the fellowship hall and wait to eat together as a family meal. Gluten free bread is provided.

Perfect Lamb of God (During Communion)

Hymn No. 242

Not All the Blood of Beasts

Not all the blood of beasts on Jewish altars slain, could give the guilty conscience peace, or wash away the stain:

But Christ, the heavenly Lamb, takes all our sins away, a sacrifice of nobler name and richer blood than they.

My faith would lay her hand on that dear head of Thine, while like a penitent I stand, and there confess my sin.

My soul looks back to see the burdens Thou didst bear, while hanging on the cursed tree, and knows my guilt was there.
