And Can It Be That I Should Gain (Hymn No. 455)

And can it be that I should gain an interest in my Savior’s blood? Died He for me, who caused His pain? For me who Him to death pursued? Amazing love! How can it be, that Thou my God shouldst die for me?

Chorus: Amazing love! How can it be, that Thou my God shouldst die for me?

’Tis myst’ry all: th’ Immortal dies: who can explore His strange design? In vain the firstborn seraph tries to sound the depths of love divine. ’Tis mercy all! Let earth adore, let angel minds inquire no more. Chorus

He left His Father’s throne above - so free, so infinite His grace - humbled Himself – so great His love - and bled for all His chosen race. ’Tis mercy all, immense and free; for, O my God, it found out me! (Chorus)

Long my imprisoned spirit lay, fast bound in sin and nature’s night; Thine eye diffused a quick’ning ray; I woke, the dungeon flamed with light; my chains fell off, my heart was free; I rose, went forth, and followed Thee. (Chorus)

No condemnation now I dread; Jesus, and all in Him, is mine! Alive in Him, my living Head, and clothed in righteousness divine, bold I approach th’ eternal throne, and claim the crown, through Christ my own. (Chorus)

Call to Worship/Prayer of Invocation

Come Behold the Wondrous Mystery

Come behold the wondrous myst’ry, in the dawning of the King. He the theme of heaven’s praises, robed in frail humanity. In our longing, in our darkness, now the light of life has come. Look to Christ, who condescended, took on flesh to ransom us.

Come behold the wondrous myst’ry, He the perfect Son of Man. In His living, in His suff’ring, never trace, nor stain of sin. See the true and better Adam, come to save the hell-bound man. Christ, the great and sure fulfillment of the law, in Him we stand.

Come behold the wondrous myst’ry, Christ the Lord upon the tree. In the stead of ruined sinners hangs the Lamb in victory. See the price of our redemption, see the Father’s plan unfold. Bringing many sons to glory; grace unmeasured, love untold.

Come behold the wondrous myst’ry, slain by death, the God of life. But no grave could e’er restrain Him. Praise the Lord, He is alive! What a foretaste of deliv’rance, how unwavering our hope. Christ in power resurrected, as we will be when He comes.

How Deep the Father’s Love for Us

How deep the Father’s love for us, how vast beyond all measure; that He should give His only Son and make a wretch His treasure. How great the pain of searing loss. The Father turns His face away as wounds which mar the Chosen One bring many sons to glory.

Behold, the man upon the cross, my sin upon His shoulder. Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice call out among the scoffers. It was my sin that held Him there until it was accomplished. His dying breath has brought me life. I know that it is finished.

I will not boast in anything; no gifts, no pow’r, no wisdom; but I will boast in Jesus Christ, His death and resurrection. Why should I gain from His reward? I cannot give an answer; but this I know with all my heart: His wounds have paid my ransom.

Corporate Confession of Sin

Kevin Berlin, Ruling Elder

Holy Father, You see us as we are, and know our inmost thoughts. We confess that we are unworthy of Your gracious care. We forget that all life comes from You and that to You all life returns. We have not sought to do Your will with our whole hearts. We have not lived as grateful children, nor loved as Christ loved us. Apart from You, we are nothing. Only Your grace can sustain us. Lord, in Your mercy, forgive us, heal us, and make us whole. Set us free from our sin, and restore us to the joy of Your salvation now and forever. Amen.

Morning Prayer

Hebrews 12:2 (VBS Song)

Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, Who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and He sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews twelve two.

We Will Run This Race (VBS Song)

Chorus: We will not look back, or swerve from side to side, but in obedience, keep moving forward. We will run this race, and we will not grow weary, for the strength we have is from the Lord.

There are some who have forgotten about the great things God has done. The seas and rivers He’s parted, and the battles He has won. Chorus

In this world, we will have trouble, we may be hated, we may be scorned. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord! Chorus

Celebration of the Lord’s Supper

New Covenant welcomes all baptized Christians who have forsaken their sin and trust in Jesus Christ alone for salvation, and who are members of congregations that proclaim the Gospel, to receive the Lord’s Supper with us. Individuals pick up their elements from the tables in the sanctuary or in the fellowship hall and wait to eat together as a family meal. Gluten free bread is provided.

Beneath the Cross of Jesus

Beneath the cross of Jesus I fain would take my stand, the shadow of a mighty Rock within a weary land; a home within the wilderness, a rest upon the way, from the burning of the noontide heat and the burden of the day.

Upon that cross of Jesus mine eyes at times can see the very dying form of One Who suffered there for me; and from my stricken heart with tears two wonders I confess: the wonders of His glorious love and my unworthiness.

I take, O cross, thy shadow for my abiding place. I ask no other sunshine than the sunshine of His face; content to let the world go by, to know no gain or loss, my sinful self, my only shame, my glory all the cross.
