Once in Royal David’s City

Once in royal David’s city stood a lowly cattle shed, where a mother laid her baby in a manger for His bed: Mary was that mother mild, Jesus Christ her little child.

He came down to earth from heaven Who is God and Lord of all, and His shelter was a stable, and His cradle was a stall: with the poor and meek and lowly lived on earth, our Savior holy.

Jesus is our childhood’s pattern, day by day like us He grew, He was little, weak, and helpless, tears and smiles like us He knew: and He feels for all our sadness, and He shares in all our gladness.

And our eyes at last shall see Him, through His own redeeming love; for that child so dear and gentle, is our Lord in heaven above, and He leads His children on to the place where He has gone.

Call to Worship/Prayer of Invocation

It Came upon the Midnight Clear (Hymn No. 200)

It came upon the midnight clear, that glorious song of old, from angels bending near the earth to touch their harps of gold: “Peace on the earth, good will to men, from heav’n’s all gracious King”; the world in solemn stillness lay to hear the angels sing.

Still through the cloven skies they come, with peaceful wings unfurled, and still their heav’nly music floats o’er all the weary world: above its sad and lowly plains they bend on hov’ring wing, and ever o’er its babel sounds the blessed angels sing.

And ye, beneath life’s crushing load, whose forms are bending low, who toil along the climbing way with painful steps and slow, look now! For glad and golden hours come swiftly on the wing: O rest beside the weary road and hear the angels sing.

For lo, the days are hast’ning on, by prophet bards foretold, when with the ever-circling years comes round the age of gold; when peace shall over all the earth its ancient splendors fling, and the whole world give back the song which now the angels sing.

Joy to the World! The Lord Is Come (Hymn No. 195) / Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee

Joy to the world! The Lord is come: let earth receive her King; let every heart prepare Him room, and heaven and nature sing, and heaven and nature sing, and heaven, and heaven and nature sing.

Joy to the earth! The Savior reigns: let men their songs employ; while fields and floods, rocks, hills, and plains repeat the sounding joy, repeat the sounding joy, repeat, repeat the sounding joy.

No more let sins and sorrows grow, nor thorns infest the ground; He comes to make His blessings flow far as the curse is found, far as the curse is found, far as, far as the curse is found.

He rules the world with truth and grace, and makes the nations prove the glories of His righteousness and wonders of His love, and wonders of His love, and wonders, wonders of His love.

Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee, God of glory, Lord of love; hearts unfold like flowers before Thee, opening to the sun above. Melt the clouds of sin and sadness; drive the dark of doubt away. Giver of immortal gladness, fill us with the light of day!

All Thy works with joy surround Thee, earth and heaven reflect Thy rays. Stars and angels sing around Thee, center of unbroken praise. Ever singing, march we onward, victors in the midst of strife. Joyful music lifts us sunward in the triumph song of lie.

Corporate Confession of Sin

Jeff Brauch, Ruling Elder

Our God and King, Whose power is infinite and wisdom infallible, we come to You confessing our rebellion, trusting in our own power and questioning Your wisdom. Please forgive our sin of self-reliance and pride. You did not hold back even Your own Son, Whom You sent to redeem us from our sin. You have made us new in Him, washed us, cleansed us, filled us with His Spirit, given us hope eternal. Open our spiritual eyes to clearly see the wonders of Your provision and to bask in Your grace and love. To believe Your forgiveness. Make us quick to flee to You, our Father, in trust and devotion. We ask in the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

How to Celebrate Christmas

Celebration of the Lord’s Supper

New Covenant welcomes all baptized Christians who have forsaken their sin and trust in Jesus Christ alone for salvation, and who are members of congregations that proclaim the Gospel, to receive the Lord’s Supper with us. Individuals pick up their elements from the tables in the sanctuary or in the fellowship hall and wait to eat together as a family meal. Gluten free bread is provided.

O Come, All You Unfaithful (During Communion)

What Child Is This (Hymn No. 213)

What Child is this, Who laid to rest, on Mary’s lap is sleeping? Whom angels greet with anthems sweet, while shepherds watch are keeping? This, this is Christ the King, Whom shepherds guard and angels sing: haste, haste to bring Him laud, the Babe, the Son of Mary.

Why lies He in such mean estate, where ox and ass are feeding? Good Christian, fear; for sinners here the silent Word is pleading. Nails, spears, shall pierce Him through; the cross be borne for me, for you: hail, hail the Word made flesh, the Babe, the Son of Mary.

So bring Him incense, gold, and myrrh; come, peasant, king, to own Him; the King of kings salvation brings, let loving hearts enthrone Him. Raise, raise a song on high, the virgin sings her lullaby; joy, joy for Christ is born, the Babe, the Son of Mary.
