Praise to the Lord, the Almighty

Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation! O my soul, praise Him, for He is thy health and salvation! All ye who hear, now to His temple draw near; join me in glad adoration.

Praise to the Lord, Who o’er all things so wondrously reigneth, shelters thee under His wings, yea, so gently sustaineth! Hast thou not seen how thy desires e’er have been granted in what He ordaineth?

Praise to the Lord, Who with marvelous wisdom hath made thee, decked thee with health, and with loving hand guided and stayed thee. How oft in grief hath not He brought thee relief, spreading His wings to o’er shade thee.

Praise to the Lord, O let all that is in me adore Him! All that hath life and breath, come now with praises before Him! Let the Amen sound from His people again; gladly for aye we adore Him.

Call to Worship/Prayer of Invocation

O Fount of Love

O fount of love divine that flows from my Savior’s bleeding side where sinners trade their filthy rags for His righteousness applied. Mercy cleansing ev’ry stain, now rushing o’er us like a flood; there the wretch and vilest ones stand adopted through His blood.

O mount of grace, to Thee we cling from the law hath set us free. Once and for all on Calv’ry’s hill, love and justice shall agree. Praise the Lord! The price is paid, the curse defeated by the Lamb. We who once were slaves by birth, sons and daughters now we stand.

O well of joy is mine to drink, for my Lord has conquered death. Victorious forevermore, the ancient foe is laid to rest. Hallelujah! Christ is King, alive and reigning on the throne; our tongues employed with hymns of praise: glory be to God alone!

From Him, through Him, to Him be all praise!

Lord, from Sorrows Deep I Call

Lord, from sorrows deep I call when my hope is shaken; torn and ruined from the fall, hear my desperation. For so long I’ve pled and prayed, “God come to my rescue!” Even so, the thorn remains; still my heart will praise You.

Storms within my troubled soul, questions without answers; on my faith these billows roll God be now my shelter. Why are you cast down my soul? Hope in Him Who saves you. When the fires have all grown cold, cause this heart to praise You. Chorus

Should my life be torn from me, every worldly pleasure; when all I possess is grief, God be then my treasure. Be my vision in the night; be my hope and refuge. ’Til my faith is turned to sight, Lord, my heart will praise You. Chorus

Chorus: Oh, my soul, put your hope in God, my help, my Rock, I will praise Him. Sing, oh sing, through the raging storm; You’re still my God, my salvation.

Corporate Confession of Sin

Blair Allen, Ruling Elder

Heavenly Father, Loving King, our thoughts and motives cannot be hidden from Your sight. Our self-pity and pride, our cowardice and sloth, our anger and envy are laid bare before Your eyes and ours. We open ourselves to You and ask that You cover us in Christ. Let us hear Your voice saying: “His blood is our peace, His death is our freedom, His Spirit is our power.” And let our hearts know that Your service is perfect freedom. Amen.

Morning Prayer

See How He Loves Us

King of heav’n, robed in light, Sovereign of all, angels adore Him. Came and set His crown aside, emptied Himself, leaving His glory. See how He loves us.

Son of Man, robed in flesh, bearing our grief, knowing our weakness. Yet despised in our eyes, pitied and poor, living among us. See how He loves us.

Chorus: Jesus, only Jesus. Humble and holy, Lord, we adore You. Jesus, only Jesus. Oh, how marvelous, oh, how wonderful Your love.

Lamb of God, crucified, suffered alone, dying, He saved us. Laid within a sinner’s grave. Ever He lives, risen to raise us. See how He loves us.

Celebration of the Lord’s Supper

New Covenant welcomes all baptized Christians who have forsaken their sin and trust in Jesus Christ alone for salvation, and who are members of congregations that proclaim the Gospel, to receive the Lord’s Supper with us. Individuals pick up their elements from the tables in the sanctuary or in the fellowship hall and wait to eat together as a family meal. Gluten free bread is provided.

By His Wounds (During Communion)

Chorus: He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our sins. The punishment that brought us peace was upon Him. And by His Wounds, by His Wounds we are healed.

We are healed by Your Sacrifice, in the life that You gave. We are healed for You paid the price, by Your Grace we are saved.

“Take Up Your Cross,” the Savior Said (Hymn No. 610)

“Take up your cross,” the Savior said, “if you would my disciple be; take up your cross with willing heart, and humbly follow after me.”

Take up your cross; nor heed the shame, and let your foolish pride be still; your Lord refused not e’en to die upon a cross, on Calv’ry’s hill.

Take up your cross, then, in His strength, and calmly sin’s wild deluge brave; ’twill guide you to a better home, it points to glory o’er the grave.

Take up your cross, and follow on, nor think till death to lay it down; for only He Who bears the cross may hope to wear the glorious crown.

10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord)

Chorus: Bless the Lord, O my soul, O my soul; worship His holy name. Sing like never before, O my soul; I’ll worship Your holy name.

The sun comes up it’s a new day dawning, it’s time to sing Your song again. Whatever may pass, and whatever lies before me, let me be singing when the evening comes. Chorus

You’re rich in love and You’re slow to anger. Your name is great and Your heart is kind. For all Your goodness, I will keep on singing; ten thousand reasons for my heart to find. Chorus

And on that day, when my strength is failing, the end draws near, and my time has come; still, my soul will sing Your praise unending ten thousand years, and then forevermore!

Call to Worship/Prayer of Invocation

Grace Alone

I was an orphan, lost at the fall, running away when I'd hear You call, but, Father, You worked Your will. I had no righteousness of my own. I had no right to draw near Your throne, but, Father, You loved me still.

Chorus: And in love before You laid the world’s foundation, You predestined to adopt me as Your own. You have raised me up so high above my station; I'm a child of God by grace and grace alone.

You left Your home to seek out the lost. You knew the great and terrible cost, but, Jesus, Your face was set. I worked my fingers down to the bone, but nothing I did could ever atone. But, Jesus, You paid my debt.

By Your blood I have redemption and salvation. Lord, You died that I might reap what You have sown, and You rose that I might be a new creation. I am born again by grace and grace alone.

Bridge: I was in darkness all of my life. I never knew the day from the night, but, Spirit, You made me see. I swore I knew the way on my own, head full of rocks, a heart made of stone; but, Spirit, You moved in me.

And at Your touch my sleeping spirit was awakened; on my darkened heart the light of Christ has shone. Called into a kingdom that cannot be shaken, heaven's citizen by grace and grace alone.

So I’ll stand in faith by grace and grace alone. I will run the race by grace and grace alone. I will slay my sin by grace and grace alone. I will reach the end by grace and grace alone.

Come, Thou Fount, Come, Thou King

Come, Thou Fount of ev’ry blessing, tune my heart to sing Thy grace; streams of mercy never ceasing, call for songs of loudest praise. Teach me some melodious sonnet sung by flaming tongues above; praise the mount! I’m fixed upon it, mount of God’s unchanging love.

Here I raise my Ebenezer; hither by Thy help I’m come; and I hope, by Thy good pleasure, safely to arrive at home. Jesus sought me when a stranger, wandering from the fold of God; He, to rescue me from danger, interposed His precious blood.

Chorus: Come, Thou Fount, come, Thou King. Come, Thou precious Prince of Peace; hear Your bride, to You we sing; come, Thou Fount of our blessing.

O to grace how great a debtor, daily I’m constrained to be. Let that grace now like a fetter, bind my wand’ring heart to Thee. Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, prone to leave the God I love. Here’s my heart, O take and seal it, seal it for Thy courts above. Chorus

Corporate Confession of Sin

Blair Allen, Ruling Elder

O Lord, You inhabit eternity, my life is nothing compared to Yours. You dwell in the highest heaven, nothing can contain You. I am finite, but You are infinite. You are almighty, I am crushed like a moth. You cannot behold evil, I am vile, ignorant, weak, and often angry with Your providence. By Your Spirit, help me with my infirmities and give me wisdom, strength, and comfort. Let me faithfully study my character, be willing to bring it to light, observe myself in trials, and consider how I have been ensnared or overcome. Please help me, O God, to trust in You. Sustain me under my trials and give me grace to rest in You, for Your glory. Amen.

Morning Prayer

Jesus Saves

Hear the heart of heaven beating, “Jesus saves, Jesus saves.” And the hush of mercy breathing, Jesus saves. Jesus saves. Hear the host of angels sing, “Glory to the newborn King.” And the sounding joy repeating, “Jesus saves.”

See the humblest hearts adore Him, Jesus saves. Jesus saves. And the wisest bow before Him. Jesus saves. Jesus saves. See the sky alive with praise, melting darkness in its blaze. There is light forevermore in “Jesus saves.”

He will live, our sorrow sharing. Jesus saves. Jesus saves. He will die our burden bearing. Jesus saves. Jesus saves. “It is done!” will shout the cross, “Christ has paid redemption’s cost!” While the empty tomb’s declaring, “Jesus saves!”

Oh, to grace, how great a debtor, Jesus saves. Jesus saves. Are the saints who shout together, “Jesus saves. Jesus saves.” Rising up so vast and strong, lifting up salvation’s song. The redeemed will sing forever, “Jesus saves!”

Man of Sorrows (During Communion)

O for a Thousand Tongues to Sing (Hymn No. 164)

O for a thousand tongues to sing my great Redeemer’s praise, the glories of my God and King, the triumphs of His grace.

My gracious Master and my God, assist me to proclaim, to spread through all the earth abroad the honors of Thy name.

Jesus, the name that charms our fears, that bids our sorrows cease, ’tis music in the sinner's ears, ’tis life and health and peace.

He breaks the pow'r of reigning sin, He sets the pris’ner free; His blood can make the foulest clean; His blood availed for me.

He speaks and, list’ning to His voice, new life the dead receive; the mournful, broken hearts rejoice; the humble poor believe.

Hear Him, ye deaf; His praise, ye dumb, your loosen’d tongues employ; ye blind, behold your Savior come; and leap, ye lame, for joy.

Christ, the Sure and Steady Anchor

Christ, the sure and steady Anchor in the fury of the storm, when the winds of doubt blow through me and my sails have all been torn. In the suffering, in the sorrow, when my sinking hopes are few, I will hold fast to the Anchor; it shall never be removed.

Christ, the sure and steady Anchor while the tempest rages on, when temptation claims the battle and it seems the night has won. Deeper still, then goes the Anchor, though I justly stand accused. I will hold fast to the Anchor; it shall never be removed.

Christ, the sure and steady Anchor through the floods of unbelief. Hopeless, somehow, O my soul, now lift your eyes to Calvary. This my ballast of assurance – see His love forever proved. All my hope is in the Anchor; it shall never be removed.

Christ, the sure and steady Anchor as we face the wave of death, when these trials give way to glory, as we draw our final breath. We will cross that great horizon, clouds behind, and life secured. And the calm will be the better, for the storms that we endured.

Christ, the shore of our salvation, ever faithful, ever true. We will hold fast to the Anchor; it shall never be removed.

Call to Worship/Prayer of Invocation

Jesus, I My Cross Have Taken

Jesus, I my cross have taken, all to leave and follow Thee. Naked, poor, despised, forsaken Thou from hence my all shalt be. Perish every fond ambition, all I’ve sought or hoped or known. Yet how rich is my condition, God and heaven are still my own.

Let the world despise and leave me. They have left my Savior, too. Human hearts and looks deceive me; Thou art not, like them, untrue. O while Thou dost smile upon me, God of wisdom, love, and might. Foes may hate and friends disown me, show Thy face and all is bright.

Man may trouble and distress me, ’twill but drive me to Thy breast. Life with trials hard may press me; heaven will bring me sweeter rest. Oh, ’tis not in grief to harm me while Thy love is left to me. Oh, ’twere not in joy to charm me, were that joy unmixed with Thee.

Go then, earthly fame and treasure, come, disaster, scorn and pain. In Thy service pain is pleasure, with Thy favor loss is gain. I have called Thee Abba Father, I have stayed my heart on Thee. Storms may howl and clouds may gather; all must work for good to me.

Soul, then know thy full salvation, rise o’er sin and fear and care, joy to find in every station, something still to do or bear. Think what Spirit dwells within thee, think what Father’s smiles are thine. Think that Jesus died to win thee, child of heaven, canst thou repine.

Haste thee on from grace to glory, armed by faith, and winged by prayer. Heaven’s eternal day’s before thee, God’s own hand shall guide thee there. Soon shall close thy earthly mission, soon shall pass thy pilgrim days. Hope shall change to glad fruition, faith to sight, and prayer to praise.

Better Is One Day

How lovely is Your dwelling place, O Lord Almighty. For my soul longs and even faints for You. For here my heart is satisfied within Your presence. I sing beneath the shadow of Your wings.

Chorus: Better is one day in Your courts, better is one day in Your house, better is one day in Your courts than thousands elsewhere.

One thing I ask and I would seek: to see Your beauty, to find You in the place Your glory dwells.

My heart and flesh cry out for You, the living God. Your Spirit’s water to my soul. I’ve tasted and I’ve seen. Come once again to me. I will draw near to You, I will draw near to You, to You.

Corporate Confession of Sin

Rich Papworth, Ruling Elder

O eternal God and most merciful Father, we confess and acknowledge before You that our flesh continually rebels against the Spirit so that we perpetually transgress Your holy precepts and commandments. In so doing, we demean ourselves and others and offend You. We beg Your mercy on us. Please look at us through the merits of Christ, our only Savior, seeing His life and death as offering for our sin. We pray for Your Spirit to assure our consciences that You are our merciful Father and that nothing is able to remove Your grace and favor from us. Create in us a hunger for holiness, that we would more accurately portray Your image to the world. We ask in the name of Your Son, our Savior, Amen.

Morning Prayer

The Lord Is My Salvation

The grace of God has reached for me, and pulled me from the raging sea. And I am safe on this solid ground: the Lord is my salvation.

I will not fear when darkness falls, His strength will help me scale these walls. I’ll see the dawn of the rising sun: the Lord is my salvation.

Chorus: Who is like the Lord our God? Strong to save, faithful in love. My debt is paid and the victory won: the Lord is my salvation.

My hope is hidden in the Lord, He flow’rs each promise of His Word. When winter fades, I know spring will come: the Lord is my salvation.

In times of waiting, times of need, when I know loss, when I am weak I know His grace will renew these days: the Lord is my salvation.

And when I reach the final day, He will not leave me in the grave. But I will rise, He will call me home: the Lord is my salvation.

Bridge: Glory be to God the Father, glory be to God the Son, glory be to God the Spirit; the Lord is our salvation.

Turn Your Eyes

Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face. And the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace.

Turn your eyes to the hillside where justice and mercy embrace. There the Son of God gave His life for us, and our measureless debt was erased.

Chorus: Jesus, to You we lift our eyes. Jesus, our glory and our prize. We adore You, behold You, our Savior ever true. Oh Jesus, we turn our eyes to You.

Turn your eyes to the morning and see Christ the lion awake. What a glorious dawn, fear of death is gone, for we carry His life in our veins.

Turn your eyes to the heavens; our King will return for His own. Every knee will bow, every tongue will shout, “All glory to Jesus alone!”

Facing a Task Unfinished (We Go to All the World)

Facing a task unfinished, that drives us to our knees. A need that, undiminished, rebukes our slothful ease. We, who rejoice to know Thee, renew before Thy throne the solemn pledge we owe Thee to go and make Thee known.

Where other lords beside Thee hold their unhindered sway; where forces that defied Thee, defy Thee still today. With none to heed their crying for life, and love, and light, unnumbered souls are dying and pass into the night.

Chorus: We go to all the world, with kingdom hope unfurled, no other name has power to save but Jesus Christ, the Lord.

We bear the torch that, flaming fell from the hands of those

who gave their lives proclaiming that Jesus died and rose. Ours is the same commission, the same glad message ours; fired by the same ambition, to Thee we yield our powers.

O Father Who sustained them, O Spirit Who inspired, Savior, Whose love constrained them to toil with zeal untired. From cowardice defend us, from lethargy awake! Forth on Thine errands send us to labor for Thy sake.

Corporate Confession of Sin

Eric DeGroff, Ruling Elder

O Lord God, eternal and almighty Father, we confess and acknowledge most sincerely before Your holy majesty that we are poor sinners, conceived and born in iniquity and corruption, prone to do evil, and that in our depravity we transgress Your holy commandments without end or ceasing. In so doing we earn Your righteous judgment, our ruin and perdition. Nevertheless, Lord, we are grieved that we have offended You; and we condemn ourselves and our sins in true repentance, pleading Your grace to relieve our distress. O God and Father most gracious and full of compassion, have mercy upon us in the name of Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. And as you blot out our sins and stains, increase in us day by day the grace of Your Holy Spirit: putting to death all our sins, and producing in us the fruits of righteousness which are pleasing to You, giving us hearts yearning for purity of life. We ask through Jesus Christ. Amen.

Morning Prayer

It Was Finished Upon That Cross

How I love the voice of Jesus on the Cross of Calvary. He declares His work is finished; He has spoken this hope to me. Though the sun had ceased its shining, though the war appeared as lost, Christ had triumphed over evil. It was finished upon that Cross.

Now the curse, it has been broken; Jesus paid the price for me. Full, the pardon He has offered. Great, the welcome that I receive. Boldly I approach my Father, clothed in Jesus’ righteousness. There is no more guilt to carry. It was finished upon that Cross.

Death was once my great opponent, fear once had a hold on me. But the Son who died to save us rose that we would be free indeed! Yes, He rose that we would be free indeed! Free from ev’ry plan of darkness, free to live and free to love. Death is dead and Christ is risen. It was finished upon that Cross.

Onward to eternal glory, to my Savior and my God. I rejoice in Jesus’ victory. It was finished upon that Cross.

Yet Not I But Through Christ in Me

What gift of grace is Jesus, my Redeemer. There is no more for heaven now to give. He is my joy, my righteousness and freedom, my steadfast love, my deep and boundless peace. To this I hold: my hope is only Jesus. For my life is wholly bound to His. Oh how strange and divine, I can sing: all is mine! Yet not I, but through Christ in me.

The night is dark, but I am not forsaken, for by my side the Savior, He will stay. I labor on in weakness and rejoicing, for in my need, His power is displayed. To this I hold: my Shepherd will defend me. Through the deepest valley He will lead. Oh the night has been won, and I shall overcome! Yet not I, but through Christ in me.

No fate I dread, I know I am forgiven, the future sure, the price, it has been paid. For Jesus bled and suffered for my pardon, and He was raised to overthrow the grave. To this I hold: my sin has been defeated. Jesus now, and ever, is my plea. Oh the chains are released, I can sing: I am free! Yet not I, but through Christ in me.

With every breath I long to follow Jesus, for He has said that He will bring me home. And day by day I know He will renew me until I stand with joy before the throne. To this I hold: my hope is only Jesus. All the glory evermore to Him. When the race is complete, still my lips shall repeat: yet not I, but through Christ in me.

Arise, My Soul, Arise

Arise, my soul, arise, shake off your guilty fears; the bleeding sacrifice on my behalf appears. Before the throne my Surety stands, before the throne my Surety stands; my name is written on His hands.

Chorus: Arise (arise), arise (arise), arise, arise, my soul, arise; arise (arise), arise (arise), arise, arise, my soul, arise; shake off your guilty fears and rise.

He ever lives above for me to intercede, His all redeeming love, His precious blood to plead; His blood atoned for ev’ry race, His blood atoned for ev’ry race, and sprinkles now the throne of grace. Chorus

Five bleeding wounds He bears, received on Calvary. They pour effectual prayers, they strongly plead for me: “Forgive him, O forgive,” they cry, “forgive him, O forgive,” they cry, “Don’t let that ransomed sinner die!” Chorus

My God is reconciled, His pard’ning voice I hear; He owns me for His child, I can no longer fear. With confidence I now draw nigh, with confidence I now draw nigh, and “Father, Abba, Father!” cry. Chorus

Call to Worship/Prayer of Invocation

Trading My Sorrows

Chorus: I’m trading my sorrows, I’m trading my shame, I’m laying them down for the joy of the Lord. I’m trading my sickness, I’m trading my pain, I’m laying them down for the joy of the Lord.

Yes, Lord, yes, Lord, yes, yes, Lord; yes, Lord, yes, Lord, yes, yes, Lord; yes, Lord, yes, Lord, yes, yes, Lord, amen.

I am pressed but not crushed, persecuted, not abandoned, struck down, but not destroyed. I am blessed beyond the curse, for His promise will endure, that His joy’s gonna be my strength. Though the sorrow may last for the night, His joy comes with the morning. Chorus

Revelation Song

Worthy is the Lamb Who was slain; holy, holy is He; sing a new song to Him Who sits on heaven’s mercy seat.

Chorus: Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty. Who was and is and is to come; with all creation I sing praise to the King of kings; You are my ev’rything and I will adore You.

Clothed in rainbows of living color flashes of lightning, rolls of thunder; blessing and honor, strength and glory and power be to You, the only wise King. (Chorus)

Filled with wonder, awestruck wonder, at the mention of Your name; Jesus, Your name is power, breath and living water, such a marv’lous mystery. (Chorus)

Corporate Confession of Sin

Bob Essmann, Ruling Elder

Our heavenly Father, we come to You Who are holy, righteous and pure, unable to even dwell in the presence of sin, we come acknowledging we have sinned against You this week. Neglecting Your holiness, we have fallen short of Your commands. Forgetting Your mercy, we have pursued our own selfish gain. Ignoring Your grace we have scorned people who are made in Your image. Please forgive us for our many sins – intentional and unintentional. Pardon us for not doing what You have told us to do, as well as for doing what You have, in Your wisdom and love, forbidden. Cause us to view and long for holiness and to recognize Your Law as Your wise gift for our flourishing and for the benefit of those You have placed around us. Make us fruitful with love in the face of hurts and trials. Give us contrite hearts, pleasing in Your sight and filled with the wonder of Your grace. We ask through the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ, Who paid our debt. Amen.

Jesus’ Death Brings Life … As Does Ours!

Come, Behold the Wondrous Mystery

Come behold the wondrous myst’ry, in the dawning of the King. He the theme of heaven’s praises, robed in frail humanity. In our longing, in our darkness, now the light of life has come. Look to Christ, who condescended, took on flesh to ransom us.

Come behold the wondrous myst’ry, He the perfect Son of Man. In His living, in His suff’ring, never trace, nor stain of sin. See the true and better Adam, come to save the hell-bound man. Christ, the great and sure fulfillment of the law, in Him we stand.

Come behold the wondrous myst’ry, Christ the Lord upon the tree. In the stead of ruined sinners hangs the Lamb in victory. See the price of our redemption, see the Father’s plan unfold. Bringing many sons to glory; grace unmeasured, love untold.

Come behold the wondrous myst’ry, slain by death, the God of life. But no grave could e’er restrain Him. Praise the Lord, He is alive! What a foretaste of deliv’rance, how unwavering our hope. Christ in power resurrected, as we will be when He comes.

By Faith

By faith we see the hand of God in the light of creation’s grand design, in the lives of those who prove His faithfulness, who walk by faith and not by sight.

By faith our fathers roamed the earth with the power of His promise in their hearts of a holy city built by God’s own hand, a place where peace and justice reign.

Chorus: We will stand as children of the promise; we will fix our eyes on Him our soul’s reward. Till the race is finished and the work is done, we’ll walk by faith and not by sight.

By faith the prophets saw a day when the longed-for Messiah would appear with the power to break the chains of sin and death, and rise triumphant from the grave.

By faith the church was called to go in the power of the Spirit to the lost, to deliver captives and to preach good news in every corner of the earth. Chorus

By faith this mountain shall be moved and the power of the gospel shall prevail, for we know in Christ all things are possible for all who call upon His name. Chorus

Communion Hymn

Lead Me Gently Home, Father

Here Is Love

Here is love, vast as the ocean; loving-kindness as the flood: when the Prince of Life, our Ransom, shed for us His precious blood. Who His love will not remember? Who can cease to sing His praise? He can never be forgotten throughout heav’n’s eternal days.

On the mount of crucifixion fountains opened deep and wide; through the floodgates of God's mercy flowed a vast and gracious tide. Grace and love, like mighty rivers, poured incessant from above; heav’n’s peace and perfect justice kissed a guilty world in love.

Here is love that conquered evil: Christ, the firstborn from the grave. Death has failed to be found equal to the life of Him Who saves in the valley of our darkness, dawned His everlasting light; perfect love in glorious radiance has repelled death’s hellish night.

That same love beyond all measure mocked and slain by hateful men lives and reigns in resurrection and can never die again. Here is love for all the ages: radiant Sun of heav’n He stands calling home His Father’s children holding forth His wounded hands.

Chorus: Who His love will not remember? Who can cease to sing His praise? He can never be forgotten throughout heav’n’s eternal days.

The Wonderful Cross

When I survey the wondrous cross on which the Prince of Glory died, my richest gain I count but loss, and pour contempt on all my pride.

Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast, save in the death of Christ my God: all the vain things that charm me most, I sacrifice them to His blood.

Chorus: O the wonderful cross, O the wonderful cross bids me come, and die, and find that I may truly live. O the wonderful cross, O the wonderful cross all who gather here, by grace draw near, and bless Your name.

See from His head, His hands, His feet, sorrow and love flow mingled down: did e’er such love and sorrow meet, or thorns compose so rich a crown. Chorus

Were the whole realm of nature mine, that were an offering far too small; love so amazing, so divine, demands my soul, my life, my all.

The Lord’s Supper: A Sign & Seal of Jesus’ Death & Resurrection for Us

For the Bread

For the bread which You have broken, for the wine which You have poured, for the words, which You have spoken, now we give You thanks, O Lord. By this pledge that You do love us, by Your gift of peace restored, by Your call to heaven before us, sanctify our lives, O Lord.

With our sainted ones in glory, seated at our Father’s board, may the Church that waits now for Thee, keep love’s tie unbroken, Lord. In Your service Lord defend us. In our hearts keep watch and ward. In the world where’er You send us, may Your kingdom come, O Lord.

Meekness and Majesty (Sung During Communion)

Meekness and majesty, manhood and deity, in perfect harmony the Man who is God. Lord of eternity, dwells in humanity; kneels in humility and washes our feet.

Chorus: O what a mystery, meekness and majesty; bow down and worship, for this is your God.

Father’s pure radiance, perfect in innocence; yet learns obedience to death on a cross. Suff’ring to give us life, conquering through sacrifice; and as they crucify prays, “Father, forgive.” Chorus

Wisdom unsearchable, God, the invisible, love indestructible in frailty appears. Lord of infinity, stooping so tenderly; lifts our humanity to the heights of His throne. Chorus

All I Have Is Christ

I once was lost in darkest night, yet thought I knew the way; the sin that promised joy and life had led me to the grave. I had no hope that You would own a rebel to Your will, and if You had not loved me first I would refuse You still.

But as I ran my hell-bound race, indifferent to the cost, You looked upon my helpless state and led me to the cross. And I beheld God’s love displayed, You suffered in my place; You bore the wrath reserved for me; now all I know is grace!

Chorus: Hallelujah! All I have is Christ! Hallelujah! Jesus is my life!

Now, Lord, I would be Yours alone and live so all might see the strength to follow Your commands could never come from me. O Father, use my ransomed life in any way You choose, and let my song forever be: my only boast is You. Chorus

The Lion and the Lamb

He’s coming on the clouds, kings and kingdoms will bow down. And every chain will break as broken hearts declare His praise. For who can stop the Lord Almighty?

Chorus: Our God is the Lion, the Lion of Judah. He’s roaring with power, and fighting our battles. And every knee will bow before Him. Our God is the Lamb, the Lamb that was slain. For the sins of the world, His blood breaks the chains. And every knee will bow before the Lion and the Lamb. Every knee will bow before Him.

So open up the gates, make way before the King of kings. The God Who comes to save is here to set the captives free. For who can stop the Lord Almighty? Chorus

It was finished upon that Cross. It was finished upon that Cross.

The Power of the Cross

Oh, to see the dawn of the darkest day: Christ on the road to Calvary. Tried by sinful men, torn and beaten, then nailed to a cross of wood.

Chorus: This, the pow’r of the cross: Christ became sin for us; took the blame, bore the wrath. We stand forgiven at the cross.

Oh, to see the pain written on Your face, bearing the awesome weight of sin. Ev’ry bitter thought, ev’ry evil deed crowning Your bloodstained brow. Chorus

Now the daylight flees; now the ground beneath quakes as its Maker bows His head. Curtain torn in two, dead are raised to life; “finished!” the vict’ry cry. Chorus

Oh, to see my name written in the wounds, for through Your suffering I am free. Death is crushed to death; life is mine to live, won through Your selfless love. This, the pow’r of the cross: Son of God - slain for us; what a love! What a cost. We stand forgiven at the cross.

Corporate Confession of Sin

Pastor Tim Dryden

Our Father, we want to enter Your presence worshipping You face-to-face, awed by Your majesty, greatness and glory, while also encouraged and renewed by Your compassion and love. Yet we confess that there is coldness in our hearts, a hardness toward You. We are often more caught up in the allures of this world than in the majesty of Your glory. Though we talk about it, we ourselves have not made the truth of the gospel the center of our attention and hope; we have often failed to make Your concerns our own. We ask You to forgive us and fill us anew with love and worship of Your holy name, that we might show forth Your greatness and glory. In Jesus we come, and in Jesus we ask. Amen.

Jesus Dying and Rising … Our Pattern

In Christ Alone with The Solid Rock

In Christ alone my hope is found, He is my light, my strength, my song; this Cornerstone, this solid ground; firm through the fiercest drought and storm. What heights of love, what depths of peace, when fears are stilled, when strivings cease; my Comforter, my all in all, here in the love of Christ I stand.

In Christ alone, who took on flesh, fullness of God in helpless Babe! This gift of love and righteousness, scorned by the ones He came to save. Till on that cross as Jesus died, the wrath of God was satisfied. For every sin on Him was laid; here in the death of Christ I live.

There in the ground His body lay, Light of the world by darkness slain. Then, bursting forth in glorious day, up from the grave He rose again! And as He stands in victory sin’s curse has lost its grip on me. For I am His and He is mine, bought with the precious blood of Christ.

Chorus: On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand, all other ground is sinking sand, all other ground is sinking sand.

No guilt in life, no fear in death, this is the pow’r of Christ in me. From life’s first cry to final breath, Jesus commands my destiny. No pow’r of hell, no scheme of man can ever pluck me from His hand. ’Til He returns or calls me home, here in the pow’r of Christ I’ll stand! Chorus

All Creatures of Our God and King

All creatures of our God and King, lift up your voice and with us sing, “Oh, praise Him! Alleluia!” Thou, burning sun with golden beam, thou, silver moon with softer gleam, oh, praise Him! Oh, praise Him! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Let all things their Creator bless and worship Him in humbleness. Oh, praise Him! Alleluia! Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son, and praise the Spirit, Three-in-One. Oh, praise Him! Oh, praise Him! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

All the redeemed washed by His blood, come and rejoice in His great love. Oh, praise Him! Alleluia! Christ has defeated every sin; cast all your burdens now on Him. Oh, praise Him! Oh, praise Him! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

He shall return in pow'r to reign; heaven and earth will join to say, “Oh, praise Him! Alleluia!” Then who shall fall on bended knee? All creatures of our God and King! Oh, praise Him! Oh, praise Him! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Call to Worship/Prayer of Invocation

Psalm 150 (Praise the Lord)

You made the starry hosts, You traced the mountain peaks; You paint the evening sky with wonders. The earth it is Your throne, from desert to the sea; all nature testifies Your splendor.

Chorus: Praise the Lord, praise the Lord; sing His greatness, all creation. Praise the Lord, raise your voice; You heights and all you depths, from furthest east to west, let everything that has breath praise the Lord.

You reached into the dust; in love, Your Spirit breathed. You formed us in Your very likeness. To know Your wondrous works, to tell Your mighty deeds; to join the everlasting chorus. Chorus

Let symphonies resound, let drums and choirs ring out, all heaven hear the sound of worship, let every nation bring Its honors to the King; a roar of harmonies eternal.

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord; sing His greatness, all creation. Praise the Lord, raise your voice; You heights and all you depths, from furthest east to west, you distant burning stars, all creatures near and far, from sky to sea to shore, sing out forevermore; let everything that has breath praise the Lord!

Knowing You

All I once held dear, built my life upon, all this world reveres and wars to own. All I once thought gain I have counted loss, spent and worthless now compared to You.

Chorus:  Knowing You, Jesus, knowing You, there is no greater thing. You’re my all, You’re my rest, You’re my joy, my righteousness, and I love You, Lord.

Now my heart’s desire is to know You more, to be found in You and known as Yours. To possess by faith what I could not earn, all surpassing gift of righteousness. Chorus

Oh to know the power of Your risen life, and to know You in Your sufferings, to become like You in Your death, my Lord, so with You to live and never die. Chorus

The Apostles’ Creed

Danny Hitchcock, Ruling Elder

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Corporate Confession of Sin

Our Father, we confess our open violations of Your law and our secret faults. We have neglected to do as You command, we have been fleshly and inattentive in worship, not treasuring Your holy things. Our trespasses are known in the heavens, but thank You that Christ has gone to the heavens as well as our advocate with You, our Father, and as the propitiation for our sins. Let us hear His word of peace. Give us light enough to see the darkness in our hearts, sensibility to note the hardness of our hearts, that we would be quick to run to You as our Savior and Deliverer. Cause us to remember that seeing our sin is Your gift that we would turn back to you. Fill our hearts with a love for You and Your will and zeal for Your glory. We ask in the mighty name of Your Son, Amen.

Morning Prayer

My Worth Is Not in What I Own

My worth is not in what I own; not in the strength of flesh and bone. But in the costly wounds of love at the cross.

My worth is not in skill or name; in win or lose, in pride or shame. But in the blood of Christ that flowed at the cross.

Chorus: I rejoice in my Redeemer, greatest treasure, wellspring of my soul. I will trust in Him, no other; my soul is satisfied in Him alone.

As summer flowers we fade and die; fame, youth, and beauty hurry by. But life eternal calls to us at the cross.

I will not boast in wealth or might, or human wisdom’s fleeting light. But I will boast in knowing Christ at the cross. Chorus

Two wonders here that I confess: my worth and my unworthiness. My value fixed, my ransom paid at the cross.

Dying and Rising with Jesus

Jesus, I Am Resting, Resting

Jesus, I am resting, resting in the joy of what Thou art; I am finding out the greatness of Thy loving heart. Thou has bid me gaze upon Thee and Thy beauty fills my soul, For by Thy transforming power Thou hast made me whole.

Chorus: Jesus, I am resting, resting in the joy of what Thou art; I am finding out the greatness of Thy loving heart.

Oh how great Thy loving kindness, vaster, broader than the sea. Oh how marvelous Thy goodness lavished all on me. Yes, I rest in Thee, Beloved, know what wealth of grace is Thine: know Thy certainty of promise and have made it mine. Chorus

Ever lift my face upon Thee, as I work and wait for Thee. Resting ’neath Thy smile, Lord Jesus, earth’s dark shadows flee. Brightness of my Father’s glory, sunshine of my Father’s face. Keep me ever trusting, resting, fill me with Thy grace. Chorus

Be Enthroned

We’ve come to join the song sung long before our lives. To raise our voice along, heaven and earth alike.

We’ve seen Your faithful hand, Your mercy without end. The King Who bled and died, a God who sacrificed.

Chorus: Be enthroned upon the praises of a thousand generations, You are worthy Lord of all. And unto You the slain and risen King, we lift our voice with heaven singing worthy, Lord of all (Lord of all).

All through this life we lead and on to eternity. Our endless praise we cry, Jesus, be glorified (Jesus, be glorified.).

Bridge: Highest praises, Lord of all. Chorus

Where sin runs deep, Your grace is more. Where grace is found is where You are. And where You are, Lord I am free. Holiness is Christ in me. Chorus

Who has held the oceans in His hands? Who has numbered every grain of sand? Kings and nations tremble at His voice. All creation rises to rejoice.

Chorus: Behold our God, seated on His throne. Come, let us adore Him. Behold our King, nothing can compare. Come, let us adore Him.

Who has given counsel to the Lord? Who can question any of His words? Who can teach the One who knows all things? Who can fathom all His wondrous deeds? Chorus

Who has felt the nails upon His hands, bearing all the guilt of sinful man? God eternal, humbled to the grave, Jesus, Savior, risen now to reign! Chorus

Corporate Confession of Sin

Pastor Jeff Elliott

Our Father in heaven, we confess our losing struggle to the spirit of this world. Our eyes and imaginations are captured by the sparkle of the material. Our dreams are anchored to promises of life and joy and peace from the things that this passing world has to offer. Success lures us. Comfort woos us. Approval from others entices us. Envy baits us. Please forgive us for not being captivated instead by Your Son whom You sent to give us hope and joy and meaning that are eternal and inextinguishable. Forgive us for marginalizing Him in our lives. Thank You for sending Him to live the life of active righteousness which we lack. Thank You for calling Him to die as a sacrifice to deliver us from eternal death under Your wrath. Thank You for rescuing us from our slavery to sin, ourselves, and this world. Thank You for sending Your Spirit to convince us of Your great love and to equip us to declare You to this world around us. We need You. We ask in the name and for the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Our God Is an Awesome God

How Great Thou Art

O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder consider all the worlds Thy hands have made, I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder, Thy pow’r thro’out the universe displayed.

Chorus: Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee: how great Thou art, how great Thou art! Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee: how great Thou art, how great Thou art!

When thro’ the woods and forest glades I wander and hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees, when I look down from lofty mountain grandeur, and hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze. Chorus

And when I think that God, His Son not sparing, sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in, that on the cross, my burden gladly bearing, He bled and died to take away my sin. Chorus

When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation and take me home, what joy shall fill my heart! Then I shall bow in humble adoration, and there proclaim, my God, how great Thou art. Chorus

Come, People of the Risen King

Come, people of the Risen King, who delight to bring Him praise; come, all, and tune your hearts to sing to the Morning Star of grace. From the shifting shadows of the earth, we will lift our eyes to Him, where steady arms of mercy reach, to gather children in.

Chorus: Rejoice, rejoice! Let ev’ry tongue rejoice! One heart, one voice; O Church of Christ, rejoice!

Come, those whose joy is morning sun and those weeping through the night; come, those who tell of battles won and those struggling in the fight. For His perfect love will never change and His mercies never cease, but follow us through all our days with the certain hope of peace. Chorus

Come, young and old from ev’ry land, men and women of the faith; come, those with full or empty hands, find the riches of His grace. Over all the world His people sing, shore to shore we hear them call the truth that cries through ev’ry age, “Our God is all in all.” Chorus

Psalm 103 (Bless the Lord, O My Soul)

O my soul! with all thy powers, bless the Lord’s most holy name; O my soul! till life’s last hours, bless the Lord, His praise proclaim; thine infirmities He healed, He thy peace and pardon sealed. O my soul! with all thy powers, bless the Lord’s most holy name.

He with lovingkindness crowned thee, satisfied thy mouth with good, from the snares of death unbound thee, eagle-like thy youth renewed rich in tender mercy He, slow to wrath, to favor free. O my soul! with all thy powers, bless the Lord’s most holy name.

Chorus: Bless the Lord! O my soul, bless the Lord! O my soul, bless the Lord! O my soul, bless the Lord, O my soul, O my soul!

Far as east and west are parted, He our sins hath severed thus; as a father, loving-hearted, spares his son, He spareth us; for He knows our feeble frame, He remembers whence we came. O my soul! with all thy powers, bless the Lord’s most holy name. Chorus

From eternity enduring, to eternity, the Lord, still His people’s bliss insuring, keeps His covenanted word: yea, with truth and righteousness, children's children He will bless. O my soul! with all thy powers, bless the Lord's most holy name. Chorus

The Heart of Worship

When the music fades, all is stripped away, and I simply come; longing just to bring something that’s of worth that will bless Your heart.

I’ll bring you more than a song, for a song in itself, is not what You have required. You search much deeper within through the way things appear. You’re looking into my heart.

Chorus: I’m coming back to the heart of worship, and it’s all about You, it’s all about You, Jesus. I’m sorry Lord, for the thing I’ve made it, when it’s all about You, it’s all about you, Jesus.

King of endless worth, no one could express how much You deserve. Though I’m weak and poor, all I have is Yours, every single breath. Chorus

Corporate Confession of Sin

Kevin Berlin, Ruling Elder

O Father, thank You for when You give us a glimpse of ourselves. Sin is our greatest evil, but You are our greatest good. We have cause to loathe ourselves. Our country, families, and church fare worse because of our sins, for sinners bring judgment in thinking sins are small, or that You are unmoved by them. Show us how to know when a thing is evil which we think is right and good. Give us grace to know our lack of knowing Your will in Scripture, our lack of turning back to You in repentance as frequently as we turn away. Show us our words that are without love, our fervent seeking of our own ends. We come to You acknowledging our perpetual need for forgiveness and deeply grateful that we find forgiveness and cleansing in You through the blood of the Lamb, our Lord Jesus. Help us anchor on His work on our behalf and the pouring out of Your Spirit into our lives, that we might live for Your glory and others’ benefit. We ask in His name. Amen.

Doxology

Sermon

Death & Resurrection in What Defines Us

Behold the Lamb

Behold the Lamb who bears our sins away, slain for us: and we remember the promise made that all who come in faith find forgiveness at the cross. So, we share in this Bread of Life, and we drink of His sacrifice, as a sign of our bonds of peace around the table of the King.

The body of our Savior, Jesus Christ, torn for you: eat and remember the wounds that heal, the death that brings us life, paid the price to make us one. So, we share in this Bread of Life, and we drink of His sacrifice, as a sign of our bonds of love around the table of the King.

The blood that cleanses ev’ry stain of sin, shed for you: drink and remember He drained death’s cup that all may enter in to receive the life of God. So, we share in this Bread of Life, and we drink of His sacrifice, as a sign of our bonds of grace around the table of the King.

And so with thankfulness and faith we rise to respond and to remember our call to follow in the steps of Christ as His body here on earth. As we share in His suffering, we proclaim: Christ will come again! And we’ll join in the feast of heav’n around the table of the King.

Instrumental Medley During Lord’s Supper

Before the Throne of God Above

Before the throne of God above I have a strong and perfect plea; a great High Priest whose name is Love, Who ever lives and pleads for me. My name is graven on His hands; my name is written on His heart. I know that while in heav’n He stands, no tongue can bid me thence depart; no tongue can bid me thence depart.

When Satan tempts me to despair and tells me of the guilt within, upward I look and see Him there Who made an end of all my sin. Because the sinless Savior died, my sinful soul is counted free; for God, the Just, is satisfied to look on Him and pardon me; to look on Him and pardon me.

Behold Him there, the Risen Lamb, my perfect, spotless Righteousness; the great unchangeable I AM, the King of Glory and of grace. One with Himself I cannot die; my soul is purchased by His blood. My life is hid with Christ on high; with Christ, my Savior and my God; with Christ, my Savior and my God.

I bow before the cross of Christ, and marvel at this love divine, God’s perfect Son was sacrificed to make me righteous in God’s eyes. This river’s depths I cannot know, but I can glory in its flood; the Lord Most High has bowed down low, and poured on me His glorious love, and poured on me His glorious love.

It was finished upon that Cross. It was finished upon that Cross.

Be Thou My Vision

Be Thou my vision, O Lord of my heart; naught be all else to me, save that Thou art − Thou my best thought by day or by night, waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Be Thou my wisdom, and Thou my true Word; I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord; Thou my great Father, I Thy true son; Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

Be Thou my battle shield, sword for the fight; be Thou my dignity, Thou my delight, Thou my soul’s shelter, Thou my high tow’r; raise Thou me heav’nward, O pow’r of my pow’r.

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise, Thou mine inheritance, now and always: Thou and Thou only, first in my heart, high King of heaven, my treasure Thou art.

High King of heaven, my victory won, may I reach heaven’s joys, O bright heaven’s Sun! Heart of my own heart, whatever befall, still be my vision, O Ruler of all.

Corporate Confession of Sin

Blair Allen, Ruling Elder

Our Lord, we confess to You our sin and resistance to You. We need deeper trust to give ourselves to You. We need deeper knowledge of You as Savior, Master, Lord, and King. We need more power in prayer, more sweetness from Your Word, and a more steadfast grip on Your truth. Give us holiness in speech, thought and action. Plow deep in us, great Lord, that our hearts may be tilled fields, the roots of Your grace spreading far and wide in us until we have no master but You, no law but Your will, no delight but Your face, no wealth but Your favor, no good but Your pleasure, no peace but Your presence. We humbly ask this in the name of Your Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Morning Prayer

Magnificent, Marvelous, Matchless Love

Magnificent, marvelous, matchless love too vast and astounding to tell, forever existing in worlds above, now offered and given to all. Oh, fountain of beauty eternal, the Father, the Spirit, the Son, sufficient and endlessly generous, magnificent, marvelous, matchless love.

Creation is brimming with thankfulness, the mountains, exultant they stand, the seasons rejoice in Your faithfulness, all life is sustained by Your hand. You crown every meadow with color; You paint every shade in the sky. Each day the dawn wakes as an encore of magnificent, marvelous, matchless love.

Chorus: How great, how sure, His love endures forevermore. Magnificent, marvelous, matchless love.

What grace that You entered our brokenness; You came in the fullness of time. How far we had fallen from righteousness but not from the mercies of Christ. Your cross is our door to redemption; Your death is our fullness of life. That day, how forgiveness flowed as a flood, magnificent, marvelous, matchless love.

Bridge: United in Your resurrection, You lift us to infinite heights. Could anything sever or take us from magnificent, marvelous, matchless love. Chorus

Sermon

With Christ

Christ Is Risen

Let no one caught in sin remain inside the lie of inward shame, but fix our eyes upon the cross, and run to Him Who showed great love and bled for us; freely You've bled for us.

Chorus: Christ is risen from the dead, trampling over death by death; come awake, come awake, come and rise up from the grave. Christ is risen from the dead; we are one with Him again; come awake, come awake, come and rise up from the grave.

Beneath the weight of all our sin, You bowed to none but Heaven's will; no scheme of hell, no scoffer's crown, no burden great can hold You down. In strength You reign; forever let Your Church proclaim. Chorus

Bridge: O death, where is your sting? O hell, where is your victory? O Church, come stand in the light; the glory of God has defeated the night. Singing: O death, where is your sting? This Is Amazing Grace

Who breaks the power of sin and darkness? Whose love is mighty and so much stronger? The King of Glory; the King above all kings.

Who shakes the whole earth with holy thunder? Who leaves us breathless in awe and wonder? The King of Glory; the King above all kings.

Chorus: This is amazing grace, this is unfailing love; that You would take my place, that You would bear my cross. You would lay down Your life that I would be set free. Jesus, I sing for all that You’ve done for me.

Who brings our chaos back into order? Who makes the orphan a son and daughter? The King of Glory; the King of Glory.

Who rules the nations with truth and justice; shines like the sun in all of its brilliance? The King of Glory; the King above all kings. Chorus

Chorus

You called me from the grave by name. You called me out of all my shame. I see the old has passed away. The new has come.

Chorus: Now, I have resurrection power living on the inside. Jesus, You have given us freedom. (Now) No longer bound by sin and darkness, living in the light of Your goodness, You have given us freedom.

I’m dressed in Your royalty. Your Holy Spirit lives in me. I see my past has been redeemed. The new has come.

Bridge: Freedom, You have given us freedom. You have given us freedom. My chains are gone. Freedom, You have given us freedom. You have given us freedom. Hallelujah. Chorus

Children’s Sermon

Pastor Tim Dryden

Corporate Confession of Sin

O our Savior, help us. We are slow to learn, prone to forget, and weak to grow; we are pained by our graceless hearts, our prayerless days, our poverty of love, our sloth in the heavenly race, our sullied conscience, our wasted hours, our unspent opportunities. Grant us belief that if we have been united with Him in a death like His, we shall certainly be united with Him in a resurrection like His. We are blind while the light shines around us: take the scales from our eyes, grind to dust our hearts of unbelief. Make it our highest joy to study You, meditate on You, gaze on You, sit like Mary at Your feet, count like Paul all things but dung. We believe, help our unbelief – through the power of Your Spirit, by the merit of your Son. Amen.

Morning Prayer

Christ Is Risen, He Is Risen Indeed

How can it be? The One who died has borne our sin through sacrifice, to conquer every sting of death; sing, sing hallelujah!

For joy awakes as dawning light when Christ’s disciples lift their eyes; alive He stands, their Friend and King; Christ, Christ, He is risen.

Chorus: Christ is risen, He is risen indeed! Oh, sing hallelujah. Join the chorus, sing with the redeemed. Christ is risen, He is risen indeed!

Where doubt and darkness once had been, they saw Him and their hearts believed; but blessed are those who have not seen, yet sing hallelujah.

Once bound by fear, now bold in faith, they preached the truth and power of grace; and pouring out their lives they gained life, life everlasting. Chorus

The power that raised Him from the grave now works in us to powerfully save; He frees our hearts to live His grace; go tell of His goodness. Chorus

He’s alive! (He’s alive!) He’s alive! (He’s alive!) Heaven’s gates are opened wide! He’s alive! (He’s alive!) He’s alive! (He’s alive!) Now in heaven glorified!

Jesus’ Death and Resurrection – and Ours

Christ, Our Hope in Life and Death

What is our hope in life and death? Christ alone, Christ alone. What is our only confidence? That our souls to Him belong. Who holds our days within His hand? What comes, apart from His command? And what will keep us to the end? The love of Christ in which we stand.

Chorus: O sing hallelujah! Our hope springs eternal; O sing hallelujah! Now and ever we confess Christ our hope in life and death.

What truth can calm the troubled soul? God is good, God is good. Where is His grace and goodness known? In our great Redeemer’s blood. Who holds our faith when fears arise? Who stands above the stormy trial? Who sends the waves that bring us nigh unto the shore, the rock of Christ? Chorus

Unto the grave, what will we sing? “Christ, He lives; Christ, He lives!” And what reward will heaven bring? Everlasting life with Him. There we will rise to meet the Lord, then sin and death will be destroyed, and we will feast in endless joy, when Christ is ours forevermore. Chorus

Days of Elijah

These are the days of Elijah, declaring the Word of the Lord; and these are the days of Your servant Moses, righteousness being restored; and though these are days of great trials, of famine and darkness and sword; still we are the voice in the desert crying, “Prepare ye the way of the Lord.”

Chorus: Behold He comes, riding on the clouds, shining like the sun at the trumpet call; lift your voice, it’s the year of Jubilee, and out of Zion’s hill salvation comes.

And these are the days of Ezekiel, the dry bones becoming as flesh; and these are the days of Your servant David rebuilding a temple of praise; and these are the days of the harvest, the fields are as white in the world; and we are the laborers in Your vineyard declaring the Word of the Lord.

Bridge: There is no god like Jehovah, there is no god like Jehovah; there is no god like Jehovah, there is no god like Jehovah.

Prayer of Invocation

Corporate Confession of Sin

Rich Papworth, Ruling Elder

Gracious God, my heart praises You for the wonder of Your love in Jesus; He is for me the incarnate, despised, rejected, crucified sin-bearer; in Him Your love to rebels has reached its height. My heart is stone, melt it with Your love; my heart is locked, let Your love be the master key to open it. O Jesus, I thank You for sacrificing Your life for me. Bring me away from my false trust to rest in You and You only. Let me not be so callous to Your merit as not to love You, so indifferent to your blood as not to desire cleansing. Lord Jesus, Master, Redeemer, Savior, come and take entire possession of me; this is Your right by purchase. In the arms of love enfold and subdue my willful spirit. O God of the effectual call, Father, Son, Holy Spirit, I adore Your glory, honor, majesty, power, and dominion forever. Amen.

Adapted from The Valley of Vision

Morning Prayer

Chorus

Jesus Paid It All

And I hear the Savior say, “Thy strength indeed is small. Child of weakness watch and pray, find in Me thine all in all.”

Lord, now indeed I find Thy pow’r and Thine alone can change the leper’s spots, and melt the heart of stone. Chorus

Prayer of Invocation

O hell, where is your victory? O Church, come stand in the light; our God is not dead; He’s alive, He’s alive! Chorus

It Is Finished

Once and for all, once and for all, You offered up Your life. For one and all, for one and all, the perfect sacrifice

Atoning blood was shed. Love conquered when You said,

Chorus: “It is finished. It is done.” To the world, salvation comes. Hallelujah, we’re alive. Hell was silenced when You cried, “It is finished. It is finished.”

Who is this King? Who is this King, so mighty and so strong? He is the One, He is the One, the earth has waited for.

God’s remedy for sin, with mercy for all men.

Bridge: The earth shook and trembled, the sun bowed its head. The veil of the temple was opened for man. As Jesus went down in the cold of the grave, defeated the darkness when He overcame. The keys of the kingdom were placed into hands of children and priests and of fishers of men. Through all generations His voice will be heard. Creation resounds the victorious words.

“It is finished. It is done.” To the world, salvation comes. Hallelujah, we’re alive. Hell was silenced when You cried, “It is finished. It is done.” Now completed the work of love. Hallelujah, He’s alive. Join the song of the ransomed Bride. It is finished. It is finished. It is finished.

Corporate Confession of Sin

Eric DeGroff, Ruling Elder

Our Holy Father, Who cannot even stand in the presence of sin, we come to You this morning as those steeped in sin. Although You have washed us clean, we have turned inward yet again, seeking our own desires, ignoring You and those around us. You have clothed us in the righteousness of Your Son, yet we have continued to seek to establish a righteousness of our own, resting on our deeds as worthy. You have raised us up with Christ to new life, yet we have functionally lived out of the flesh, out of our own resources, to the neglect of Your Holy Spirit, Who was given to guide us. You have seated us with Him in the heavenlies, yet we set our affections on this earthly existence. Father, please forgive us. Wash us again. Renew us in Your Spirit and incline our wills to Yours. Give us jealousy for Your glory. We ask in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Sermon

Where Should Easter Take Us?

Thine Be the Glory (Hymn No. 274)

Thine be the glory, risen, conqu’ring Son; endless is the vict’ry Thou o’er death has won; angels in bright raiment rolled the stone away, kept the folded grave clothes, where Thy body lay.

Refrain: Thine be the glory, risen, conqu’ring Son; endless is the vict’ry Thou o’er death hast won.

Lo! Jesus meets us, risen from the tomb; lovingly He greets us, scatters fear and gloom; let the Church with gladness, hymns of triumph sing, for Her Lord now liveth, death hath lost its sting. (Refrain)

No more we doubt Thee, glorious Prince of life; life is naught without Thee: aid us in our strife; make us more than conqu’rors, thro’ Thy deathless love: bring us safe thro’ Jordan to Thy home above. (Refrain)

O Come, All You Unfaithful (Sung during the Celebration of the Lord’s Supper)

O come, all you unfaithful. Come, weak and unstable. Come, know you are not alone.

O come, barren and waiting ones, weary of praying. Come, see what your God has done.

Chorus: Crowned with thorns, mocked, and scorned. The veil is torn for you.

O come, bitter and broken. Come, with fears unspoken. Come, taste of His perfect love.

O come, guilty and hiding ones, there is no need to run. See what your God has done. Chorus

Bridge: He’s the Lamb Who was given, slain for our pardon. His promise is peace for those who believe. He’s the Lamb now arisen; paid is our ransom. His blood on that tree secured, death’s defeat.

So come, though you have nothing. Come, He is the offering. Come, see what your God has done. Chorus

Christ the Lord Is Risen Today (Hymn No. 277)

Christ the Lord is ris’n today, Alleluia! Sons of men and angels say; Alleluia! Raise your joys and triumphs high; Alleluia! Sing, ye heav’ns, and earth, reply. Alleluia!

Vain the stone, the watch, the seal; Alleluia! Christ has burst the gates of hell: Alleluia! Death in vain forbids His rise; Alleluia! Christ has opened paradise. Alleluia!

Lives again our glorious King, Alleluia! Where, O death, is now thy sting? Alleluia! Once He died our souls to save, Alleluia! Where thy victory, O grave? Alleluia!

Soar we now where Christ has led, Alleluia! Foll’wing our exalted Head; Alleluia! Made like Him, like Him we rise; Alleluia! Ours the cross, the grave, the skies, Alleluia!

Hail, the Lord of earth and heav’n! Alleluia! Praise to Thee by both be giv’n; Alleluia! Thee we greet triumphant now; Alleluia! Hail, the Resurrection, thou! Alleluia!

Tenebrae Service

Tenebrae, from the Latin word for “shadows,” has been observed in the church of Jesus Christ since the fourth century, on Maundy Thursday, or Good Friday. During the service, different readers will recall the events that led Jesus to the cross, and we will extinguish eight candles one by one, dramatizing the suffering and death of Jesus. The diminishing light symbolizes fading devotion of the disciples and the sin of the world. At the end of the service the sanctuary will be substantially dark. There will be no benediction. Please leave silently, contemplating Christ’s crucifixion. Jesus, the Son of God, was dead.

The purpose of the service is to recreate the betrayal, abandonment, and agony of the events, and it is left unfinished, because the story isn’t over until Easter Day.

Response (hymn 247):

O Sacred Head, Now Wounded

The Shadow of Accusation

Reading:

Matthew 27:11-18, 21-26

Response:

How Deep the Father’s Love for Us

How deep the Father’s love for us, how vast beyond all measure that He should give His only Son and make a wretch His treasure. How great the pain of searing loss. The Father turns His face away as wounds which mar the Chosen One bring many sons to glory.

Behold, the man upon the cross, my sin upon His shoulder. Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice call out among the scoffers. It was my sin that held Him there until it was accomplished. His dying breath has brought me life. I know that it is finished.

I will not boast in anything; no gifts, no pow’r, no wisdom, but I will boast in Jesus Christ, His death and resurrection. Why should I gain from His reward? I cannot give an answer, but this I know with all my heart: His wounds have paid my ransom.

Hosanna, Loud Hosanna

Hosanna, loud hosanna resound with praise and sing hosanna, loud hosanna to Christ the King of kings, blessed is the One Who comes. We join in one great voice hosanna, loud hosanna, sing praises and rejoice.

From Olivet they followed mid an exultant crowd, the victor palm branch waving, and chanting clear and loud. The Lord of earth and heaven rode on in lowly state, nor scorned that little children should on His bidding wait.

“Hosanna in the highest!” That ancient song we sing, for Christ is our Redeemer, the Lord of heaven, our King. O may we ever praise Him with heart and life and voice, and in His blissful presence eternally rejoice.

Hosanna (Praise Is Rising)

Praise is rising, eyes are turning to You. We turn to You. Hope is stirring; hearts are yearning for You. We long for You;

Pre-chorus: ’Cause when we see You, we find strength to face the day. In Your presence all our fears are washed away, washed away.

Chorus: Hosanna, hosanna! You are the God who saves us, worthy of all our praises! Hosanna, hosanna! Come have Your way among us; we welcome You here, Lord Jesus.

Hear the sound of hearts returning to You; we turn to You. In Your Kingdom broken lives are made new. You make us new.

Across the Lands

You’re the Word of God the Father, from before the world began; ev’ry star and ev’ry planet has been fashioned by Your hand. All creation holds together by the power of Your voice: let the skies declare Your glory, let the land and seas rejoice!

Chorus: You’re the Author of creation, You’re the Lord of ev’ry man; and Your cry of love rings out across the lands.

Yet You left the gaze of angels, came to seek and save the lost, and exchanged the joy of heaven for the anguish of a cross. With a prayer You fed the hungry, with a word You stilled the sea. Yet how silently You suffered that the guilty may go free. Chorus

With a shout You rose victorious, wresting victory from the grave, and ascended into heaven leading captives in Your wake. Now You stand before the Father interceding for Your own. From each tribe and tongue and nation You are leading sinners home. Chorus

Corporate Confession of Sin

Bob Essmann, Ruling Elder

Our Father, we confess that we confuse You, the God of grace, with Your benefits of grace; we long for Your blessings, rather than Your presence. Have mercy on our absence of meekness, our neediness of approval and praise, and our lack of charity for those with whom we disagree or who criticize us. We confess that we become rote with Your Word, mechanical with our prayer, and indifferent to Your greatness and grace. Make us by Your Spirit more modest, more joyful, more hopeful, and more child-like. Open our eyes to Your beauty, Father, to the finished, triumphant work of Your Son, and seal us in Your love for all eternity by Your Spirit. Hear our prayers and forgive us, Lord, for Christ’s sake. Amen.

Morning Prayer

Glorious

You slept beneath the stars You named and numbered, were tempted in a desert You designed. You faithfully obeyed the law You authored. The King left His throne behind.

You washed the feet of those who called You Master, and fed the multitudes with truth and bread. You shared the feast with harlots and with sinners, and loved those who sought Your death.

Chorus: Glorious, Lord, You are glorious. Shepherd and King forever You’ll be glorious.

Without a word You faced the accusations, and joyfully You bore the bitter cross. The Innocent received our condemn-nation and paid for the rebel’s cost.

Glorious, Lord, You are glorious. Shepherd and King forever You’ll be: glorious, holy and here with us. Let every heart declare that You are glorious.

Beneath the earth You fashioned You were buried. The Word of Life was silenced by the grave. But doors of death could not contain Your glory. Our God rolled the stone away.

Stricken, Smitten, and Afflicted

Stricken, Smitten, and Afflicted

Stricken, smitten, and afflicted, see Him dying on the tree! ’Tis the Christ by man rejected; yes, my soul, ’tis He ’tis He! He’s the long expected Prophet, David’s Son, yet David’s Lord; by His Son God now has spoken; He’s the true and faithful Word.

Tell me, you who hear Him groaning, was there ever grief like His? Friends in fear His cause disowning, foes insulting His distress; many hands were raised to wound Him, none would interpose to save; but the deepest stroke that pierced Him was the stroke that Justice gave.

You who think of sin but lightly nor suppose the evil great here may view its nature rightly, here its guilt may estimate. Mark the sacrifice appointed, see Who bears the awful load; He’s the Word, the Lord’s Anointed, Son of Man and Son of God.

Here we have a firm foundation, here the refuge of the lost; Christ’s the Rock of our salvation, His the name of which we boast. Lamb of God, for sinners wounded, sacrifice to cancel guilt! None shall ever be confounded who on Him their hope have built.

His Mercy Is More

What love could remember no wrongs we have done? Omniscient, all knowing, He counts not their sum. Thrown into a sea without bottom or shore, our sins, they are many; His mercy is more.

Chorus: Praise the Lord, His mercy is more. Stronger than darkness, new every morn. Our sins, they are many; His mercy is more.

What patience would wait as we constantly roam? What Father, so tender, is calling us home? He welcomes the weakest, the vilest, the poor. Our sins, they are many; His mercy is more. Chorus

What riches of kindness He lavished on us. His blood was the payment; His life was the cost. We stood ’neath a debt we could never afford. Our sins they are many; His mercy is more. Chorus

Let Us Love and Sing and Wonder / Nothing But the Blood

Let us love and sing and wonder; let us praise the Savior’s name. He has hushed the law’s loud thunder; He has quenched Mount Sinai’s flame. He has washed us with His blood, He has washed us with His blood, He has washed us with His blood; He has brought us nigh to God.

Let us sing, though fierce temptation threaten hard to bear us down, for the Lord, our strong salvation, holds in view the conqueror’s crown. He Who washed us with His blood, He who washed us with His blood, He who washed us with His blood soon will bring us home to God. What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Let us wonder, grace and justice join and point to mercy’s store. When through grace in Christ our trust is, justice smiles and asks no more. He Who washed us with His blood, He who washed us with His blood, He who washed us with His blood has secured our way to God. What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. What can make me whole again? Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Let us praise and join the chorus of the saints enthroned on high. Here they trusted Him before us; now their praises fill the sky. Thou hast washed us with Thy blood, Thou hast washed us with Thy blood, Thou has washed us with Thy blood; Thou art worthy, Lamb of God! What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. What can make me whole again? Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Oh precious is the flow that makes me white as snow; no other fount I know, nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Corporate Confession of Sin

Jeff Brauch, Ruling Elder

Our Father, it is Your will that we should love You with heart, soul, mind, strength, and our neighbor as ourselves, but we have instead filled our hearts with self-love. We confess that our affections continually turn away from You: from purity to lust, from freedom to slavery, from compassion to indifference, from fullness to emptiness. Have mercy on us. Cause us to look to Jesus’ substitutionary death on the cross confidently as our hope, just as You look at it as our payment. Order our lives by Your holy Word, and make Your commandments the joy of our hearts. Conform us to the image of Your loving Son, Jesus, to Your glory we ask. Amen.

Morning Prayer

Amazing Grace

Amazing grace! How sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me! I once was lost, but now am found, was blind, but now I see.

’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, and grace my fears relieved; how precious did that grace appear, the hour I first believed!

The Lord has promised good to me, His Word my hope secures; He will my shield and portion be, as long as life endures.

Through many dangers, toils and snares, I have already come; ’tis grace hath brought me safe thus far, and grace will lead me home.

Yea when this flesh and heart shall fail, and mortal life shall cease, I shall possess within the veil, a life of joy and peace.

When we’ve been there ten thousand years, bright shining as the sun; we’ve no less days to sing God’s praise, than when we first begun.

Lovingkindness

Let praises now awake the dawn, we’ll greet Your mercy with a song; Your people stand and sing for all Your lovingkindness. You’ve carried us in faithfulness, upon the paths of righteousness; our gracious King, You’ve crowned us with Your lovingkindness.

Chorus: How great is Your lovingkindness, O God of goodness; our joy forever to sing the glad refrain of grace that saved us, of sweet forgiveness; oh, how great is Your lovingkindness.

You lift us with a Father’s hand, You shelter us with Your commands; what heart could fully comprehend Your mercies endless. You lead us through the shadows deep, where doubts trace every step it seems; but as the darkness breaks we’ll see the morning promise. Chorus

A life laid down to rescue us with arms outstretched upon the cross; the greatest Gift there ever was of lovingkindness. A life laid down to rescue us with arms outstretched upon the cross, the greatest Gift there ever was of lovingkindness, Your lovingkindness. Chorus

How great is Your lovingkindness, O God of goodness; our joy forever to sing the glad refrain of grace that saved us, of sweet forgiveness; oh how great is Your love, O God.

How Great Is Our God (English / Spanish)

The splendor of the King, clothed in majesty; let all the earth rejoice, all the earth rejoice. He wraps Himself in light, and darkness tries to hide, and trembles at His voice, and trembles at His voice.

Chorus: How great is our God! Sing with me: how great is our God! And all will see how great, how great is our God!

Chorus (Spanish): Cuan grande es Dios. Cántale cuan grande es Dios. Y todos lo verán, cuan grande es Dios.

And age to age He stands, and time is in His hands; Beginning and the End, Beginning and the End. The Godhead three in one, Father, Spirit, Son, the Lion and the Lamb, the Lion and the Lamb. Chorus (Spanish)

Bridge: Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee: how great Thou art, how great Thou art! Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee: how great Thou art, how great Thou art!

Prayer of Invocation

Heal Our Land

You take our lives, flawed, yet beautiful. Restore, refine; Lord, You’re merciful. Redeem, revive:

Chorus: Spirit of God, breathe on Your church. Pour out Your presence, speak through Your word. We pray in ev’ry nation, Christ be known. Our hope and salvation; Christ alone.

New pow’r, new wine as divisions fall. One Church, one Bride, Jesus, Lord of all. With one voice we cry: Chorus

Bridge: So God, we pray to You, humble ourselves again. Lord, would You hear our cry? Lord, will You heal our land? That ev’ry eye will see, that ev’ry heart will know the One who took our sin, the One who died and rose.

And when Your kingdom comes, and when at last, You call, we’ll rise to worship You alone. Chorus

Corporate Confession of Sin

Kurt Nelson, Ruling Elder

Father in heaven, we thank You for the freedom You have given us through the life, death and resurrection of Your Son. But we confess today that although You have freed us to live for Your glory, we live for our own. Instead of living like You delight in us, we avoid You in shame and guilt. Instead of telling others of Your greatness and faithfulness in our lives, we live in the fear that You cannot change their hearts, making them receptive. Instead of praying for Your kingdom to expand, we seek the expansion of our own little kingdoms. Instead of pursuing Your purposes, we cling to our short-sighted agendas. Forgive us. Restore us. Reorient us. Embolden and humble us. We ask this in the name of our Savior, Your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Morning Prayer

O for a Thousand Tongues to Sing (with SingTime Kids; ** congregation joins on vss. 5 & 6)

** He speaks and, list’ning to His voice, new life the dead receive; the mournful, broken hearts rejoice; the humble poor believe.

** Hear Him, ye deaf; His praise, ye dumb, your loosen’d tongues employ; ye blind, behold your Savior come; and leap, ye lame, for joy.

On Jordan’s Stormy Banks

On Jordan’s stormy banks I stand and cast a wishful eye to Canaan’s fair and happy land, where my possessions lie.

All o’er those wide extended plains, shines one eternal day. There God the Son forever reigns, and scatters night away.

Chorus: I am bound, (I am bound), I am bound, (I am bound), I am bound for the Promised Land.

No chilling winds nor poisonous breath can reach that healthful shore; sickness, sorrow, pain, and death are felt and feared no more. Chorus

When shall I reach that happy place and be forever blessed, when shall I see my Father’s face and in His bosom rest? Chorus

Chorus

Corporate Confession of Sin

Danny Hitchcock, Ruling Elder

Our loving heavenly Father, thank you for providing for our every need, including forgiveness for all our sin, based solely on the sacrificial death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We confess to you that our hearts are prone to wander from your loving care, our faith is weak, our hearts are cold. Forgive us when we are stingy with our worldly goods, have mercy on us when we cling to our worthless trinkets instead of clinging to you and your infinite goodness. Thank you for your faithfulness and for providing us with more than we need. Forgive us when we fail to return to you the portion you require, for your glory and in your name, Amen.

Morning Prayer

Our Father Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors, and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil, for Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever, Amen.

Where Is Your Treasure Stored?

We Give Thee But Thine Own (Hymn No. 432)

We give Thee but Thine own, whate’er the gift may be: all that we have is Thine alone, a trust, O Lord, from Thee.

May we Thy bounties thus as stewards true receive, and gladly, as Thou blessest us, to Thee our firstfruits give.

Our hearts are bruised and dead, and homes are bare and cold, and lambs for whom the Shepherd bled are straying from the fold.

And we believe Thy word, though dim our faith may be, whate’er for Thine we do, O Lord, we do it unto Thee.
